HINSDALE NATIVE PURSUES LOVE OF THEATRE ONSTAGE AND BEHIND THE SCENES
Birth date: 11/07
Hometown: Hinsdale
When did you get your start on stage? My first role was ‘Maria’ in The Sound of Music when I was seven. I started acting much earlier.
Where have you studied your craft? Acting Studio Chicago, Second City, The Green Room, Private Acting Coaches, Voice Coach, University of Illinois-Champaign Urbana, Loyola University
What are you working on now? I am currently casting for a sketch comedy show I’m directing at Second City and Gorilla Tango Theater in Chicago. Ryan Schefdore, of Hinsdale, was pre-cast after an excellent performance in the promotional video for show. Also, I am an ensemble member of “Wheelhouse,” an improve group from Second City. We started working together in November and had a successful run in the skybox. As a result, we decided to continue to grow, perform, and tour Chicago.
I’m also directing a show at Second City Los Angeles June-July. I’m interning at O’Connor Casting, a distinguished casting agency in Chicago. My experience there has been amazing. I love working in that aspect of the industry. I constantly audition, train, and rehearse. I’m in acting or improv classes at least 13hours per week. My next show at Second City is March 9th at 6:00 PM in the skybox. It’s an improvised musical.
In addition to all of the above, I am a fulltime student at Loyola University Chicago.
Do you have a "day job" or do you pursue acting full time? Full time.
What else have you done? I’ve done work in film, commercials, and theater. I write plays and screen plays. Acting is my passion. Directing comes naturally to me. It’s hard work but extremely rewarding. Second City is my favorite place in the world. I practically live there. Improv is definitely my favorite of all genres. I also enjoy Musical Improv.
What has been your biggest break so far? My internship at O’Connor Casting has been the most valuable experience. I am learning from experienced industry professionals. In 2005, I danced in the feature film, The Break Up. It was the best experience of my life. I knew then, undoubtedly, that I wanted to do this for the rest of my life.
Whose work inspires you? Robert Deniro, Ben Stiller, Chris Farley, Natalie Portman, Kate Hudson, Angelina Jolie, Jude Law, Drew Barrymore.
Do you have a dream role, or a show you would most like to do? I definitely see myself on Saturday Night Live. I would love to do daytime television. A lot of my Second City friends say they could see me on Days of Our Lives. I think I’m more of a Friends chick. I have many characters that I develop at Second City. I love playing The Cheerleader. Although I see myself enjoying a variety of roles, I simply want to play “the good girl.”
What do you find most difficult about the business you have chosen? It’s unbelievable how quickly one adapts to regular rejection. Auditioning for me has become so commonplace. However, it is a constant battle to keep my head up. I’m really hard on myself.
What surprises you most, or what would other people be surprised to learn about what you do? It’s a great business. Most people would be surprised to learn the depth of dedication required to pursue this career. It’s not just an aspect of my life. Acting is my life.
What advice would you give someone else who wants to follow in your shoes? Audition, audition, audition. Never stop training. Prepare for rejection. Seek reputable representation from an agency.
Where do you go from here? I will continue training, auditioning, acting and directing.
What do you enjoy doing when you're not working? I like running by the lake. I love dancing and choreographing dances. I usually see two shows a week. I often go to improv jams with my friends at Improv Olympic or Second City. I like traveling. I’m always writing.
What makes you good at what you do? I’m motivated, reliable, and perseverant. I am constantly striving to improve my craft. I have much confidence in myself.
What does it take to do what you do? A genuine passion for the craft.
If all goes as you wish, what will people be saying about you 20 years from now? Hopefully I will have outstanding reviews on my direction, acting, and writing.

Alexandra DiNovi: 0n the rise to superstardom
I discovered this talent at Second City in Chicago and right from the onset, her stage presence and charisma blew me away. This actress is naturally funny! Not to mention, her drop dead gorgeous looks seemed to be drawing attention away from all the other actors onstage. She executed her look to perfection – a look of confidence, determination, and sex appeal. It didn’t matter what scene she was in, each dialogue montage was executed with flawless perfection.
In Hollywood there are many great entertainers. What sets the good apart from the great is the level of emotion – stage performance – they are able to convey to the audience, and a certain type of believability in the character they play – identifying with and appealing to the audience. Moreover, to the point in which the audience starts to “feel” the character’s emotions – becoming empathic toward them. Anyone can memorize a script but this Meisner trained actress follows her instincts and wholeheartedly immerses herself in her work. She has the ability to transcend stage and film. She possesses an uncanny stage presence about her that everyone will recognize right away.
